    The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans banded together and formed organizations with what would become known as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Since then, the more than 2,000,000 members of the VFW have been instrumental in establishing the Veterans Administration, creating the GI bill and fighting for compensation for Vietnam and Gulf War vets. Approximately 10,000 VFW and Ladies Auxiliary members from around the world will convene in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the 116th National Convention where members will vote on organizational by-laws, attend workshops, and network with other veterans.

    The American Legion’s largest annual meeting hosts representatives from each of the Legion’s 55 departments – the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines. At the national convention, Legionnaires have the authority to approve changes to the Legion’s constitution and bylaws and are responsible for passing programs that determine the course of the Legion as well as electing a national commander and five national vice commanders to serve until the next convention. Other key events at the national convention include the exhibit hall, the annual Color Guard contest, parade and family night.

HLAA provides assistance and resources for people and their families to learn how to adjust to living with hearing loss. HLAA’s 2014 annual convention in Austin, Texas features over forty communication-accessible workshops and demonstrations on topics such as employment, advocacy, hearing aids, cochlear implants, assistive technology and relationships.
